March 2008

During the winter months, Kitchener Soccer Club donated two dozen soccer balls to a Club Member who was traveling to El Salvador. Below is a letter from the volunteer as well as some pictures from his trip.

Dear KSC,
I have just now had an opportunity to sit down and write this email of thanks to your club for providing two dozen soccer balls for my trip to El Salvador (Jan. 20th to Feb. 4th).  I thought you and your staff and volunteers would be interested in some of the pictures of the kids who received them.

Actually, we gave a dozen of the balls to each of two rural schools we visited.  All of the pictures I have attached are at the smaller school, way out, so far from anything, where subsistence farming is all that the land can tolerate.  One picture shows the one and only old ball that the school had before we got there.

The rest of the photos show the tiny school, 2 rooms and that was it, corrugated steel roof, gorgeous scenery as a backdrop.

Thanks again for the contribution to the success of our trip, and I hope we can get more used balls from you in the future.

John McVicar
